Officer Warren D. McLaws
Officer McLaws has served in law enforcement for more than 31 years. He recently joined the CCSD School Police force and completed new-hire training. He is assigned to Knox ES STEM Academy and the Ralph Bunche Center. Officer McLaws previously served with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the DeKalb County Police Department.
Why did you decide to become a police officer?
I became a police officer to serve and protect my community, make a difference in people’s lives, and stand up for those who can’t defend themselves. I wanted a career with purpose, challenge, and the opportunity to help others.
What do you enjoy most about serving in CCSD?
Building relationships with students and staff, creating a safe learning environment, and being a positive influence. Knowing I will help protect our future generations, while also mentoring and guiding them, is truly rewarding.
What is a piece of safety advice for parents to reinforce to their children at home?
Teach your children to always be aware of their surroundings and trust their instincts. Remind them never to go anywhere with strangers, always use the buddy system, and know how to contact you or another trusted adult in an emergency.
